Introduction to Semteism – Cultivating the Inner Flame
Objective
By the end of this lesson, participants will:
- Understand the core principles of Semteism (inner flame, eternal pulse, Chichu practice).
- Learn and practice a basic Kashō meditation and Chichu sequence.
- Reflect on the Cycle of the Flame and personal alignment with the precepts.
- Connect with the community of Luminaries of the Flame.
Materials Needed
- Meditation mats or comfortable seating
- Small bell or cymbal (optional)
- Paper and pen for journaling
- Handout with the Nine Precepts
Lesson Structure
1. Introduction (10 minutes)
- Welcome participants: "Good day fellow followers and seekers of knowledge."
- Brief history of Semteism: Founder’s vision and emergence of the inner flame.
- Introduce the concept of the Inner Flame as the personal spark of awareness and guidance within each individual.
- Explain how the Inner Flame is experienced and followed through mindfulness, reflection, and daily practice.
- Discuss the purpose of the lesson: to align with the eternal pulse and cultivate mindfulness.
2. Core Teachings (15 minutes)
- Explain the inner flame and eternal pulse.
- Introduce Nine Living Precepts and discuss practical applications.
- Discuss the Cycle of the Flame: entrapment, liberation, and how daily choices affect spiritual alignment.
- Optional: Share a short parable illustrating the principle.
3. Meditation Practice – Kashō (15 minutes)
- Guide participants into seated position, spine straight, eyes half-closed.
- Lead breath observation: inhale/exhale slowly, visualize the inner flame expanding and contracting.
- Optional: strike a bell or cymbal at the start and end.
- Reflection prompt: "What attachments or distractions do you notice in your mind?"
4. Chichu Practice – The Art of Living Flow (15–20 minutes)
- Kaze no Michi (Way of Wind): flowing movements, focus on breath and flexibility.
- Ishi no Michi (Way of Stone): anchored stances for grounding and endurance.
- Hikari no Michi (Way of Light): slow, deliberate movements, cultivating clarity and compassionate intent.
- Integration: Perform a short sequence combining all three paths.
5. Reflection and Journaling (10–15 minutes)
- Participants write insights or feelings during meditation and Chichu practice.
- Reflect on alignment with precepts and moments of inner clarity.
- Share voluntary insights with the group if comfortable.
6. Closing and Guidance (5 minutes)
- Offer a short wisdom saying or sutra to end the session:
"The flame within you is not to be held, only to be followed. Breathe. Move. Remember."
- Encourage daily practice of Kashō and Chichu sequences.

Optional Homework / Daily Practice
- Morning: 10 minutes of Kashō meditation.
